Worst drought in 60 years hitting Horn of Africa

East Africa is currently experiencing the worst drought to hit the region in 60 years. The United Nations has declared famine in southern Somalia. Other countries in the Horn of Africa, Ethiopia and Kenya are also severely affected.

Baitulmaal’s team on the ground assessed the situation and identified the needs of the vulnerable people affected. Recurring droughts, inflated food prices, water shortages, on-going conflict, displacement of over 1.1 million and a drop in humanitarian assistance leaves more than 40% of the population are in urgent need of life-saving assistance, according to OCHA. *300,000 children under the age of five are acutely malnourished – this requires urgent attention.

Baitulmaal’s main programs in the Horn of Africa include constructing water wells and distributing water among families in remote villages. Baitulmaal is currently focusing on expanding its safe water distribution to more villages and displaced families. Food packages and other vital needs will also be distributed.

Millions are facing thirst and hunger. Help children and families suffering under the cogs of  this crisis. Many kids die because of water and food scarcity. Please donate today! Any contribution will help.
