Since March 2011, Syria has been embroiled in civil war in the wake of uprisings against Assad and the neo-Ba’athist government, and as a result of the Civil war, the government gradually lost control over 60% of Syria to the Rebel groups. The opposition coalition has been recognized as the “sole representative of the Syrian people” by 100 nations including the United States, United Kingdom and France. In June 2013, the death toll was updated to 92,900–100,000 by the United Nations. According to the UN, about 4 million Syrians have been displaced within the country and 1.5 million have fled to other countries and the numbers keep growing.
Baitulmaal in Syria
Baitulmaal is committed to supporting the Syrian refugees and victims of the recent conflicts that erupted in 2011. As thousands pour across the borders into Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey Baitulmaal has been there to deliver food aid, basic necessities, clothing, medical supplies and decent temporary housing to replace the tents. The children have been forced to delay their education because Jordan is requiring all the children to pay to go to school. In response Baitulmaal has been raising the funds needed to help educate as many students as possible. This work is only just beginning. Contribute today with a generous donation that can help make the lives of the refugees better.
