Michigan was declared a state of emergency.
AHED International (Baitulmaal) has made a much-needed donation to the people of Flint, Michigan on behalf of our donors.
Thousands of water bottles are being distributed to residents who live in Flints’ poor neighborhoods, whose supply had been contaminated with lead. Since 2014, more than 100,000 people have been consuming tainted water.
According to the Detroit Press, the contamination began when city officials switched the water supply from Lake Huron to the more polluted Flint River in an unsuccessful effort to cut costs. The city failed to treat the water from its new source properly, which exposed children to lead and its related health problems.
“This is a tragedy of staggering proportion and it is shocking that such disaster is happening in our country today, in the USA. The situation is beyond belief,” Suleiman Alghanem, AHED Intl CEO stated.
Until this problem is resolved, AHED will continue to deliver water bottles to those affected.
