Pakistan is one of the most populous countries in the world. With increased urbanization and instability, over 16 million lack access to safe clean water and adequate sanitation. Access to safe water is extremely difficult for many communities due to the geography of the country, ranging from dry deserts to remote mountainous regions. Since the 2010 floods, it is estimated that over half the population of Pakistan have migrated to urban remote areas increasing the strain on already limited water resources.
Baitulmaal’s New Wells in Sujawal District
Access to clean water is essential to the development in Pakistan, and the effects of its scarcity are growing fast. Since establishing our Pakistan office in 2010, we have helped marginalized communitties establish sustainable water supplies by constructing water wells, maintaining existing ones, and distributing water bottles. Our local team works hard to ensure vulnerable people have access to water supply in districts such as Sindh and Punjab.
In Sujawal District, we have dug 5 new 50 feet water wells in different areas and installed new handpumps. These wells will provide access to safe clean drinking water and sanitation to over 1,500 people.
How can you help?
Help us provide access to clean water! Support us in diging more water wells. The cost of one water well is anywhere between $1,200 – $3,000. Any contribution will help.
