Hurricane Ike has hit. Devastation and havoc has been wreaked throughout Louisiana and Texas, and this is the first time we have had the misfortune to see another hurricane hit this close to home since hurricanes Katrina and Rita. This storm is nearly as big as the state of Texas itself has already blasted a 500 mile area of coastal lands in Louisiana and Texas. The hurricane is now sending waves over the seawall and threatening to devastate coastal towns and wreak havoc on America’s 4th largest city.
Ike is pushing 110+ mile winds and the waves are up to 50 feet. Water is already knee deep in some areas and will increase by nightfall and tomorrow it will be a disaster
Some evacuations are already in effect for the lower lying areas of Houston, our neighbors. Thousands of homes and businesses have been damaged or demolished, the windows in Houston’s tall skyscrapers have been shattered and millions of people are without power today.
Search and rescue teams are being put together to search for more than 100,000 people who didn’t evacuate. They are forecasting the largest search and rescue mission that has ever taken place in the state of Texas according to a spokesman for the Governor Rick Perry.
When Hurricane Katrina hit you came together and helped its victims. Once again, Baitulmaal is asking for your assistance for these who need us right now. That is what we do when our friends, family and neighbors are in need. We help. Please donate today to enable us to help the needy victims who are already calling us for assistance in needing food and places to stay. Please click on the photos to see the catastrophic devastation that Ike is rendering out. We need your help. Please donate today.
