Pakistan projects status Report




 

Project#1:  Provide tents, food and other basic necessities for flood victims that took shelter in school at Jamshoro. This included installing a high volume water filtration and purification system at the school and monthly rations to 84 families at the camp

Target: Provide basic necessities such as food, water and shelter to flood victims at this camp and relocate them from the school to the tents. Cleared the area of shrub and installed tents. Provide services till the families moved back to their old lands.

Purpose met?  Yes, all the families have moved back to their old land with the help of Baitulmaal and majority have been given newly built homes.

Project #2: Renovate school at Jamshoro that was damaged by the floods

Target: Repair and repaint school to make it ready for students to come back to it.

Purpose met? School renovated and repainted by Baitulmaal. High volume Water purification system Installed as well.

Project #3: Housing project

Purpose: To provide decent housing for the many families that lost their homes during the floods and ended up in refugee camps. The families were mostly in a camp operated by Baitulmaal

Target: Provide 150 2-bedroom houses in various parts of Pakistan ( Kot Ado, Jamshoro, Manzoorabad)

Purpose met? 114 houses completed at a cost of about $270,000. Waiting on funds to complete 36 more houses at a cost of about $90K

Outstanding tasks: Raise more funds (around $90K) for the remaining houses and complete this project by end of year 2011.

Project#4:   Distribute 6 containers full of food, clothing, shoes, medicine and medical supplies, school items...Etc shipped from the USA.

Target: To efficiently and effectively distribute these items to the flood victims in 10 villages in Thata area.

Purpose met? The items were very effectively distributed to the appropriate groups. Food and clothing for families, school supplies to schools and medicines to hospitals.

Project#5: Donate Ophthalmic Microscope, EKG & ultrasound machines to Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA)

Target:  Support PIMA with medical equipment to conduct medical camps in our areas of operation

Project#6: Drill water wells in 22 villages in Thatta and other areas

Target: Drill water wells in all 22 villages that have their water systems destroyed by the floods

Purpose Met? All water wells already completed.

Outstanding tasks: More water wells needed. Average cost is $600 per well

Project #7: Repair Masjids destroyed by floods

Target: Repair Masajids in Thatta area destroyed by the floods and allow congregations and Quranic schools to operate. Hire Quran teachers to help the children learn basic Aqeedah and Quran. See Video Link

Project #8: Conduct an effective qurbani program that reaches as many affected areas as possible

Target: Spent over $20K on Qurbani for most flood affected areas including Jamshoro, Manzoorabad, abad got, Hyderabad, many villages in Thatta area and further.

Purpose met? The Qurbani program was very successful and we hope to implement an even bigger and more effective one this year InshaAllah

Project #9: Support a needy family program (both in Ramadan with Iftar program and throughout the year)

Target: To provide $25-$50 a month supplemental income to the neediest families with a target of 1000 families. Currently we have about 50 families’ receiving aid, but InshaAllah we intend to increase this. We’ve provided Iftar support programs in the past, but this year we are short of funds to implement this Ramadan Iftar program.

Purpose met? Work in Progress and one of the important initiatives in the future

Outstanding tasks:  Identification and Selection criteria are in progress. Making flyers for this program

 


 

Project#10: Adopt and support a primary school

Target: We understand that education is critical and areas affected by the floods have poor education standards. InshaAllah, we are working on adopting a school and running as a private school with excellent education services.

Outstanding tasks: School identified in Thata, working on planning and fund development.




 

Project#11: Start skills development program like start sewing centre at Ranta Village.

Target: Open a self-help project that will be sustainable in the long run and help peasants earn a living.

Purpose met? Work in progress

Outstanding tasks: Baitulmaal team requested to look into the cost of the machines, space, materials and other requirements. InshaAllah, we will provide further update on this soon.
