Emergency Disaster Relief - Syrian Disaster Relief

Syria_Woman

Thousands of the Syrian refugees crossed the border into Lebanon, Turkey, and Jordan and reached safe shelters seeking protection. According to their local relief agencies, there are more than 13,500 Syrian refugees in Lebanon alone, about 8,000 in Jordan, and approximately 7,600 in Turkey. Only about 14,338 of them are actually registered so they total number could be much higher.

What is Baitulmaal doing?

On behalf of generous donors, Baitulmaal has delivered food supplies and organized a clothing caravan to 250+ families in Lebanon, many who have made their home out of condemned and abandonned schools and buildings. In addition more than $20,000 worth of supplies have reached the hands of refugees in both Turkey and Jordan as well in an emergency response to the growing needs of the displaced victims of the violence.

We are not done though! Read on to find out more about our plans for support and see pictures for what we have already done!

Baitulmaal has opened an office in Jordan to more effectively deal with both the needs of the Jordanians and Palestanian in need there but to also better support the Syrian Refugees who are now trying to find some balance in the face of disaster. After having collected data in a needs assessment report Baitulmaal is coordinating an effort to support the refugee populations in Jordan from both an emergency response platform as well as a sustainable approach. Below is the preliminary scope of need.

Most Needed Items

(report from Jordan)

We opened an official Baitulmaal branch in Jordan and conducted an on the ground needs assessment of the Syrian refugees there. The information yielded the number of refugees in region to be served by Baitulmaal = 838 and the categories of needs are as follows:
  • Severe basic needs shortage
  • Education for displaced children
  • Mental and physical health crisis
  • Housing shortage - Duration need = 3 months
Total estimated costs = $250,000!

While that seems like a lot if you break it down you are looking at $510 per month to clothe, feed, house and educate a family of five for 3 months!
As the costs of these items adds up Baitulmaal is turning to our dedicated community of supporters for help. Please contribute as much as you can!!
