Hunger: UN warns of disaster

The World Food Programme said in a statement issued in Nairobi that Kenya faced a humanitarian disaster, and that appeals made in December had received little response. "Since our last appeal in December, we have received very little, against the growing needs," said WFP executive director James Morris.
"We don’t have enough for the 1.2 million people we are currently feeding, let alone the expected increase to 2.5 million or more in February," he added. WFP country director Tesema Negash said the agency was moving whatever food there was to the worst hit northern and eastern parts of the country.
