Urgent Needs For Water & Food
On this trip, I was in Wajir, Kenya for 7 days. It was extremely dry and hot as always. The land was bare and dusty with no grass on the ground nor leaves on the trees. The few animals around were emaciated and very weak. It's been 2 years since the last rain and according to an 82 yr old resident, this is the worst drought he has experienced in his life. There have been many other droughts, but he says this one has been unique in the sense that unlike the past, there is no place to run to that is a safe haven. Everywhere within migratory distance for the nomadic community is the same. He says the lives of the people are now in extreme danger as they try to salvage the few animals left by waking them to distant places in search for water and pasture. In the short time I was there 3 people died from a lack of food and water. In the past there were many NGOs supporting these villages with food and water when such situations arose. Currently, there are none. As a result, the situation is devastating. What did we accomplish?
A truck load of food and powdered milk was distributed in 10 villages. Each family received around 5-10 KGs of corn meal and at least 2 sachets of powder milk to keep them for a couple weeks (less than $7 per family). 50 plus drinking water tanks were also dispatched to most of these villages in the past few months, each water tanker costing about $300. This delivered enough water for 100 families for approximately 2 weeks. I have no words to express the du'a those people made for all of us including the donors. How can you help? When neighboring villages heard of the distribution in the area we visited, they came from miles to see if they could receive any help. We promised them we would come back to help them as soon as possible. In total there are still another 5 villages from the surrounding area that need to be covered with food and water supplies and they are in desperate need.
We ask Allah azawajal to send rain on them and to ease their hardship and we request everyone to donate generously to help the people in East Africa. . Please donate, save lives and gain rewards. Read More |
