Droughts and Displacement
The country suffers from droughts, which increase famine and push more families into a state of food insecurity each day.
Additionally, many lack access to clean drinking water and are forced to ingest unsafe, contaminated waters, resulting in high cases of life-threatening cholera, especially in children.
The deadly civil war has weakened the public health system and left families too impoverished to afford private healthcare.
This results in dangerous, yet preventable, implications for the country’s mortality rates, especially among women and infants.
Additionally, the war has destroyed many of the local schools, with nearly 60 percent of children not currently receiving an education.
